Phonics FFT ‘Success for All’
Fisher Family Trust Phonics (FFT) is our chosen Phonics Scheme at Upton upon Severn CofE Primary School. Our aim through FFT is to embed phonics sounds within everyday practice and to enable all children to read confidently. Phonics teaches children to read by identifying the phonemes (the smallest unit of sound) and graphemes (the written version of the sound) within words.
‘FFT Success for All Phonics provides a comprehensive set of both formative and summative phonics assessment materials’
‘Our ambition is to enable success for all children and inspire a lifelong love of reading’.
The shared reading section of FFT enables children to read books chorally that are linked to the phonemes being taught, extending vocabulary to enrich their learning experience. Our reading books (that link to the FFT program) in Reception and KS1 are fully decodable. These books focus on the sounds that the children have already been taught, further consolidating their knowledge and vocabulary. We supplement this learning through books from the Collins "Big Cat" scheme in KS1. As the children progress through the school and develop their love of reading there are several other schemed books that are used to encourage reading for pleasure and shared reading.
